Irritating rattle

Asked by Apr 07, 2017 at 09:06 PM about the 2001 Saturn S-Series 3 Dr SC2 Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a really bad rattle that is worse when in park, sitting in drive at a light,
and when going in reverse. It sounds like a part of my car is falling apart, it is
near the driver side but doesnt sound like its coming from the engine. I need
help figuring this out.

Maybe a loose exhaust system heat shield.

It probably is coming from a exhaust heat shield, Just have to start from the exhaust manifold and work your way down inspecting the exhaust.

Yes, they tend to rust and break loose, and vibrate.

That may be it, We just replaced the fuel pump since the pump and filter are actually in the same area and my car wouldnt start at one point and we replaced it. But I will have to check it out.

Have you changed the serpentine and tensioner?
