Could be a bad throttle position sensor, bad/dirty mass air flow sensor, the intake might need to be cleaned. Are there any check/service engine soon light on in the dash?

Nope, no service lights... nothing else wrong with the car, drives well accept for the high idle after long drives.

Ok if there are no service lights on then it's probably going to be one or more of the things I mentioned earlier.
