Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 Saturn SL2 4dr Sedan and lately it has been taking a little longer to start, it
makes a noise as if it is not going to turn over although it always does. What could cause
this- battery? alternator?

Most likely suspect is the battery if it's cranking slowly (R..........R............R). Have the battery load tested. If it fails and is more than four years old replace it. Just to be safe have the alternator output tested as well. Make sure your battery cables are clean and tightly secured as well. When replacing the battery put some Vaseline on the cable ends that fasten to the battery. They'll never corrode again. HTH. -Jim
