2007 Chyrsler Sebring wont start (noise I've never hear before)

Asked by Junomon Jul 22, 2024 at 07:46 PM about the 2007 Chrysler Sebring Touring Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Chryster Sebring and the car won't start.  It doesn't click but it does make a higher rotating sound. It's not a clicking sound.  I had a neighbor of mine listen to it and he said he's never hear that kind of sound before.

Lost compression? Is the engine actually spinning over?

Or the starter gear is not moving forward to engage the flywheel to crank the engine. As Gene said, make sure the engine is actually cranking over (turning) when you try to start it. If it is and is spinning over really fast, run a compression test. If all cylinders test very low or zero the timing chain has jumped or the timing belt has broken. Whichever you have. Jim
