My old battery malfunctioned and I replaced it. Since that Time, the new battery becomes drained only hours afet I shut the car off. What could the problem be?

The old car seams to run well, however, this electrical problem only came to a head when
I had to buy and install a new battery.  Since that time, the battery drains over night.
