Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Motor overheating plus the top radiator has allot of
pressure built up can't even squeeze it. I've put 2
new thermostat  thinking the first was faulty I got a
160 the second time, could it be the water pump or
something is clogged up?

Your Camaro needs a 195°F thermostat to run correctly! If it is overheating at slow speeds or while idling it's an airflow problem. Such as the radiator cooling fan(s) not working correctly. Or the radiator and air-conditioning condenser blocked by dirt, leaves, etc. If it's overheating at highway speeds it's a coolant circulation problem. Bad water pump, clogged radiator, clogged passages in the engine, collapsing lower radiator hose, very low on coolant. If the engine lacks power and the transmission is shifting late as well it's a worn timing chain. Does the heater work? If not the cooling system is most likely clogged or you're very low on coolant. In installing the theromstats, did you "burb" the air out of the system? The system can "air lock" towards the fire wall. I find that filling the system full with the front of the car higher than the rear helps to get coolant back in to these places. Have the car running and keep filling the radiator to the top. There are bleed caps in the system on the water hose metal connectors that can be carefully opened until water comes out - then quickly close. You can also obtain small valves to which you can add plastic lines. I run the lines into the coolant fill opening. Run and fill with water with valves open, watching for air bubbles. When there are no more air bubbles, close valves and radiator cap. System should now be free of air. If air lock was the problem, it should now be cured.
