Can moving the tire/wheel make alarm sound

Asked by Sep 07, 2016 at 02:22 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe 2 Dr LT 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I took my tahoe a shop to get it aligned they guys told me they couldn't do it
cause my ball joints needed to be replaced. They also told me they whiggled
the tire and my alarm went off. But I've never had an alarm on this truck and
have never heard of this happening befor if someone can tell me if this
sounds right that'd be great. Pretty sure the guys at this shop. We're messing
with my truck more than they should have been

It can if it was armed and they had the wheels off the ground and spin one, the system will see a movement from the wheel sensors and could set off the alarm, but like I stated it would have too have been set. It is possible that someone in that shop was pulling a fast one on maybe the new guy and armed the system without him knowing about it and didn't confess when it went off, we use to pull fast ones on the new guy in every shop I worked in, but they usually fessed up to the prank when he got had by it. As far as your ball joints worn out that is entirely possible, mine went out just over 100K on my old 96 Tahoe, they should also check the idler arm as mine were also bad.
