I think you will be fine..but 'empty weight' is that the trailer? "GVWR" means Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Towing Capacity is 15,100 lbs. Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating is 6084lbs. But that's Ok, you need only count the weight of the tongue of trailer, since the 5th wheel, or gooseneck, is on the axle, not the back like a regular hitch. Take a 6480lb trailer, add 2 horses@ 2000 each (going high, I know they don't weigh that much) + tack and gear, say 1000 lbs= 11,480lbs. No worries. But when you say 'carry' two people remember you can't have them in the trailer on the road. You might want to consider an aux. transmission cooler, don't want to tax your new transmission too much. Have a great ride, and trip, and be safe. You could even take a third horse and be A-OK

Thanks..the humans ride in the truck...and our horses weight around 900 to 1200.

Pus..have trans cooler already factory installed. Empty weight is trailer

You're good to go. Only one more thing, please make sure you have working trailer brakes, surge brakes, hydraulic, electric, whatever, but it's very important, could mean the lives of your horses. Be sure to downshift out of Overdrive going up a steep hill, let the engine run fairly fast, won't harm engine and much easier on transmission. Have fun!

Do you mean...I have Tow/Haul button on shift; do I turn it off then down shift the engine to 3rd gear?? thanks again...

No, not shift in to 3rd.... Just the Tow/haul button - that kicks it down to 3rd. That way the transmission won't overheat. No reason to drop a gear with the shifter unless you are going even slower, say 35 - 40

I am familiar with the tow button on your GMC.. I am not just speaking in ignorance, plus many years of towing horses myself. Ex-wife liked to show Arabs. Been to Fairplex Pomona for one, she and her gelding took a red ribbon 2nd place there. Talal x bint Mona
