96 Lumina Tranny Fluid? What'll happen if DEX VI is used instead of DEX III?
so get the right fluid- and smarter friends-
Check the bottle. If it's not synthetic or synthetic blend it'll be fine as long as it says "Dextron" on the bottle. When GM started introducing the newer Dextron fluids they assured the public that the new fluid types could be used in any GM Hydromatic transmission made from 1939 thru present. HTH. -Jim
Jim is right the Dex Vi is backward compatible with Dex III. But if you have a leak, fix the leak.
Getting the right fluid is easy but I failed to mention in detail; friend bought 3 quarts of DEX VI, in which 1 of them he used. I need a pan gasket kit/filter but money is scarce so I'm relocating - but with a car falling apart I'll go nowhere! Thanks for your replies - a good validation of what I researched. :)
You're welcome. Glad to help. Thank you for the best answer click. -Jim
