Check Engine Light on

Asked by Feb 12, 2015 at 04:56 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just spent a $1000 to replace the water pump in my 1996 Cavalier Z24 and almost
immediately afterwards, the check engine light came on.  Seems they must have messed
with something else and I'd really love not paying them big bucks again,  Anything I can
check or do short of taking it back to the shop?

go to autozone or most major parts stores and they will read the computer code for free.

Sounds like they forgot to plug something back in. Possibly the coolant temp sensor. Scanning the computer will tell you where to look. HTH. -Jim
