Does my transmission need service

Asked by Jul 18, 2014 at 09:42 AM about the 2002 Jaguar S-TYPE 3.0

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I noticed my transmission is slipping and when I shift from park to reverse the car jerks,
never changed the fluid myself, but would like to save a couple of bucks by doing it myself. Or should I just have it serviced.

Changing the fluid is part of the maintenance before you develop problems. Since the trans is slipping, and jerking, it's probably too late for just a fluid change. Slipping is caused by worn clutches that get burned and worn down. Your probably looking at a rebuild. Have a reputable mechanic diagnose your issue.

When hot, the transmission does not shift from first to second - and you cannot check the fluid level what needs to be done?
