Have a 96 camaro. Won't start. Not getting any gas to the engine. Already changed the fuel filter. Was told to check or bypass the security system. How do I know if that is problem.
Turn the ignition on but don't try to start it. You should hear the fuel pump run for about 3 seconds. Do you have a visible chip on the ignition key? If so you have the VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System) security system. If not you have the PASSKEY security system which uses a transponder key. With VATS the most common problem is the ignition key lock cylinder. There's 2 wires inside the lock cylinder that wear and lose contact with the chip on the key. You'll have to replace the ignition lock cylinder AND get the correct VATS key made. There were 15 possibilities. If you have a transponder key, use the spare, if you have one. If you don't have a spare transponder key you'll have to get new keys programmed at the dealer. HTH. -Jim
