Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my car just cuts off with no warning, after sitting a few minutes starts fine then a couple miles cuts off again. changed plugs and wires then this begins. #1 sparkplug seems to seep out smoke for a few minutes when first started, smells like plastic melting, not oil burning, new fuel pump and filter one year ago, some say crankshaft sensor, I'm so confused, Help Please!!! anyone experienced this before? jim

After the vehicle stops does the engine turn over as if trying to start? If your response is yes I suggest having the crank sensor checked. I suspect that where your problem is.

Thank you very much, I suspected as much but needed that normal answer. I've asked this question several ways on here and the answers were all over the board, some were totally out in left field. but the answer you gave me was what I had suspected all along. thanks very much. jim

That or Mass Airflow Sensor. GM MAF Sensors are notorious for stalling your car once warmed up and it will not restart until its cooled.

Check the cam sensor and wiring harness mine melted and wires we're shorting out , or the three relays on firewall are melted together, check each one , pull out the relay and check inside , and on bottom of relay, check pigtails, rear fuse boxes pull fuses on the left side the inserts get spread out and the the fuses don't connect,
