1996 chevy blazer 4wd problems

Asked by Apr 18, 2016 at 10:02 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer 4 Door LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've been having problems with my 4wd kicking
out. It locks in fine in both 4 hi and 4 low. I hit the
button and it flashes until I put it in reverse and it
locks in just fine. But if I put it in 4 hi it kicks it out
as soon as I give it gas, which I never really used
my 4 hi in the first place. But when I put it in 4 low
it does fine as long as I don't give toout much gas
or whatever I'm in isn't too sticky.  What could this
be?

I was going to say it was the shift motor but when you put in that it will kick out in 4 LO also now I believe that there is some wear inside the transfer case gears and bushings, could also be some wear in the shifting mechanism. Maybe it's time for a transfercase overhaul.
