my 94 Buick wont start with key but you can jump it off the starter and it dies
194 Buick has new alternator starter and
Battery I went outside to start it I have dash
lights and everything but starter will not
engage with ignition but it will start with a
screwdriver on the starter but dies right after
what could it be
There is a starter relay.......it works with the security system to keep the car from starting if someone tries with the wrong key. Assuming you have the proper key the security system would trigger the relay and when you turned the key 12v would go to the starter solenoid. You probably have a underhood electrical box and that relay should be there. the inside cover of the box should have a label with all the components identified. Usually there will be several relay that are alike, pull one for something that has nothing to do with starting and switch it with the starter relay if that works go buy a new relay.
This is related to the antitheft system The system is known for turning off the starter and/or injectors when it fails. Normally when the injectors are turned off, the car will run for a second or two, and then stall. Or when the starter is turned off, it acts exactly how you are describing. Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY or a picture of a car with a lock through it? This is a common problem worth looking into. http://www.diy-gm- security.com/ & http://newrockies.com/
