How do you know if your timing is set right

Derek White

Asked by Jul 29, 2015 at 08:29 PM about the 1995 Buick Regal 4 Dr Custom Coupe

Question type: General

1 Answer

The ignition timing is controlled by the computer and is not adjustable. As for the valve timing, you have a camshaft position sensor and a crankshaft position sensor. If the timing chain stretches or jumps it should trigger the check engine or service engine soon light. Other symptoms of a jumped/stretched timing chain are loss of power, running hot and boiling over when you shut it off, and possible late transmission shifting. HTH. -Jim
