how do I know if my wheel bearings need replacement

Asked by Jun 19, 2015 at 10:51 AM about the 2007 Toyota Avalon XL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had tires checked and front end alignment checked. Has a roaring sound on both front side of wheels. My mechanic said sounded like I needed new wheel bearings. What is the approx. cost to replace them??

Somewhere around $600 for both front wheel bearings. Book labor time is 4.0 hours@$100/hr https://www.automd.com/iq/results/?quote_request_id=8290355

On Your other question is how do you know if they are bad? One way is jack up car and try to wiggle tire from top and bottom. Assuming the spindle nut is tight, then they may be bad. It often very difficult to know for sure without taking it apart
