startup problem

Asked by Feb 28, 2016 at 09:33 AM about the 2007 Audi A4 2.0T Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Startup problems. Listing two issues since they might be related.
1. Need to wait a few seconds in contact before turning engine on, if I dont, the engine wont start.
2. One out of 10 times, CEL does not come ON when key is
in contact position and the car wont start (harsh noise while attempting).
When CEL comes on in contact, and I wait, car starts just fine

This could be an issue with the ignition switch of the vehicle. This will cause interruptions with the starter as well as connectivity to the ECM (or the brain of the car). I would recommend that you get it into a reputable mechanic or the Audi Dealer to reach the CEL code. I have found Auto Parts Stores to be less than accurate when this occurs. I hope this helps! Best of Luck!

Thanks. Any suggestions how to test: CEL never stays ON (my guess is no code will be found) and since main problem happens occasionally. many shops will (they did) just say "I cannot replicate bad-start problem" and do nothing
