My son has a 2007 Dodge Caliber with an automatic CVT transmission and now the gears don't have any torque.

Asked by Mar 04, 2015 at 06:46 PM about the 2007 Dodge Caliber SXT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

All of the sudden the car gears don't engage, we tried on Drive, Low gears and Reverse
and nothing.  We never check the transmission fluid because there is no dip stick. Do
you believe we need to buy a new transmission? Thanks for your help

A CVT transmission has a belt instead of gears. Although it's not common the belt could have ripped and is now broken.

Only way to know is to have it checked out. Oh, and most shops won't rebuild a CVT transmission, only replace them.
