If coolant is hissing and steaming near the water pump, it's probably leaking out of the weep hole in the bottom of the shaft area. It will leak there when the bearing fails. This is a sign that it needs to be replaced before your stranded on the side of the road. I'd replace the other hoses around the area while you have it all apart.
