Hood latch release not wanting to work?

I have a 2003 Buick Park Avenue and it seems the hood latch release button
located to the left below my steering wheel doesn't seem to work properly.
This is a recent issue and it seems like I have to always have a second
person pull up on the hood while I pull the lever repeatedly until it finally
opens. My boyfriend thinks the line that pulls it is stretched out, is there any
way for me to fix this by myself?

Try lubricating the hood latch, and the piece u have to move to release the safety latch.
