What would make a knocking sound in my engine and what kind of problem could it be?

Asked by Jul 26, 2015 at 03:12 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer 4 Door LT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Chevy blazer.  The engine started running hard and making a loud  knocking sound.

Loud, unfortunately, could be a thrown rod. Connecting rod from piston to crankshaft breaks, wrist pin breaks, cap on rod comes off from crank. Serious.

Sounds like a thrown rod. Not worth fixing in my opinion. HTH. -Jim
