I cannot get my car out of park in the morning. why? It happens randomly like most of the crazy stuff the car does

I warm it up before trying to move it but for about a week, it had to run for at least 40 minutes before it would come out of park.

The transmission is the most complex, intricate, least understood and most often neglected part of vehicles. I would guess that you are experiencing transmission problems. Take it to a reputable transmission shop or dealer ASAP.

There probably is a solenoid to release the shift lever when you step on the brake. Sounds like it's sticking. But if you're now parking on a hill your shifter is getting "wound up". To avoid this, when parking on a hill, set the emergency brake after shifting into park & before removing your foot from the regular brakes pedal. HTH. -Jim

This happened to me once and it turned out to be that I parked to close to a curb with my wheel turned funny. Tow truck guy was able to move the obstruction and it jumped out of park. He said he gets that call all the time with Volvos.
