Volvo s40 ran out of gas and wont start could it be the computer

Might be the fuel pump burned out. You should never run your fuel tank to complete empty. Did you prime the fuel system after you added some more fuel? To do that you have to turn the key on and off a few time, but not start it the car to build up pressure. Do you hear the pump prime/buzz when you turn the key to know it is activating?

Then it's an unknown. So you would have to be able to pick it fairly cheap because you know you will be having to repair it. Figure a new fuel pump, fuel filter, flush the fuel lines and injectors.
