2005 S40 T5 - "Urgent Transmission Service"

Asked by Feb 08, 2016 at 04:35 PM about the 2005 Volvo S40 T5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Anyone out there know anything about this before I spend an arm and a leg at
the mechanic? Was on the freeway and suddenly it showed the message:
"Urgent Transmission Service". Started skipping 1st and 3rd gears in either
auto or manual mode and lagged and vibrated as I tried to get it home. Had to
manually shift down to 2nd to start from stop. It has been slamming into gear,
mostly 2nd for a few months. I took it to my mechanic when it first started, and
he said he couldn't find anything wrong (he also updated the software but it
still continued to shift really hard). Now this new issue.

Might be time for a rebuild. Find a reputable independent transmission shop in your area.

Thanks, Tom! Dropped it off this afternoon! We'll see what the diagnosis is when my mechanic calls tomorrow. Fingers crossed it's not a blown tranny (but somehow I think that's pushing it)! ;)

Turns out it's the solenoid! Way better than having to replace the whole transmission!
