volvo 202 s40 wont start after running out of gas

car ran out of gas . put about 3-4 gallons of gas in. now wont start

You most likely burned out the fuel pump. The fuel pump is kept cool by the gasoline flowing through it. When you run out of gas no fuel is cooling the fuel pump. So it overheats and burns out. HTH. -Jim
