I have a 1998 Chevy Cavalier and it won't start, No warning signs or anything. Any ideas?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I didn't have any problems until this
morning.  I turn the key,  all the electrical
stuff works,  but engine wise all I get is a
fast clicking sound.  Any ideas? I figure it's
the starter,  but I did notice the dinging
sound it does when the key is turned
slowed down a little.  I don't know if it's
relative.

Switch on the headlights and try to start it. Do they dim, flicker badly, or go out? If so, it's going to be the battery or the battery cable connections. If the headlights stay nice and bright it's the starter. HTH. -Jim
