Harmonic balancas

Asked by Aug 10, 2016 at 03:28 PM about the 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata Roadster

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an  1990 Mazda Miata. I found another harmonic
balancer of a Mazda 323 that looks identical. Are these
compatible to change out and swap?

internal and external balance, width, dia outside, inside dia of snout,keyway...you did not say what engine/s if the same then YES>>

1.6 engine cross check part numbers 323, to Miata, But if it was mine I spend $40 dollars for a new one, after 16 years they tend to come apart.

Thanks. I'm thinking the smart route is just buy a new one!

Buy a new one as it is not worth the risk.

Risk is extremely low if all measurements are identical. This isn't rocket science...use it!
