Which engine parts need to be replaced or have maintenance done after 60K miles?
I have a 2006 Mazda 6 with approximately 68K miles on it and I have driven it harder
than the average bear. My check engine light has been on for almost 20K miles
because I've been told that is merely a decoy to try and get me to take it into the
dealership for maintenance. But, I recently went to Firestone and they said I need to
have my Spark Plugs, Timer Belt and a few other engine parts replaced. Can
someone either fill me in on what exactly I should be looking to replace and or where I
can find the info I'm looking for? Thanks!
A decoy? Ha. The check engine light goes on when a stored code is placed into the cars computer memory from one of the many sensors on the car. Scan for the codes,. I'm surprised Firestone didn't mention this. You can buy a code scanner for $25 and do it yourself or have a local auto parts store do it for free. Post the 4 digit code or codes back here.
Depending on mileage on your Mazda6, you might be ready for a new timing belt and plugs. Are you at the 100K mark?
