2006 Lexus RX 330. Ac blows cold when moving. At idle, Ac light blinks and blows hot.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When car is moving, AC blows very cold. When car sits still for a few
minutes, recirculation light goes out, and AC light starts blinking. At that
point car begins to blow hot air. Took to local dealer who kept car two day's
and charged me over 500 dollars and said it had a bad relay. Drove the car
back to my wifes work. All seemed fine. When she left work, she pulled
over to make a call and the same thing happened again. I'm about to pull
my hair out! Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Many
thanks in advance for help!

a/c charge has been reduced somehow...possibly a child pressing the valve to let the refrigerant...you must get a new filter/dryer and a recharge....yes something that one cannot do....evacuate the circuit first so the filter dryer does not start pulling water vapor out~...if you know about refrigeration the evaporator side goes too cold...the condensor goes too hot...the imbalance causes this...there is a sight glass on the a/c expansion valve...so that if white bubbles show that means there is contaminant and the filter/dryer has been affected....get the air conditioning service done professionally would be my assertion~

Check internet for this bulletin that was issued on 06/03/05. TSB EL011-05 Technical Service BULLETIN - Toyota Parts. Not sure if your car has a magnetic clutch relay but Toyota issued a service bulletin that corrects a similar problem. Print the bulletin and take it to your dealer. It is my understanding that not all cars after 2005 have the relay part number 90987-02022, which should be replaced with the part number 90987-02028. Best wishes.

If I didn't get my Lexus at an actual dealership ..Would I still take it to a Lexus repair shop to have the problem about my air fixed?..or do I just use any repair place?

...well Patricia, if they have a vacuum pump and new dryer/desiccant in the refrigerant line, would just go to the air conditioning service place, and they will vacuum the system to get contaminants out then install a filter/dryer and recharge to perhaps 18psi....those guys will know what it is supposed to be~
