I would have it checked out by a mechanic and if it needs replacement, factor in the cost of the repair.

With the timing belt change interval, if he hasn't already changed it, it is overdue. Have the owner do it or take the cost of the service off the purchase price.

Many problems with these cars with the abs system be careful very pricey to fix also if 1.8 t motor have it throughly checked out they had major problems with the camshafts wearing out the journals in the head if car is very noisy on startup beware another very costly fix
