If the serpentine belt does NOT drive the water pump, you can drive it until the battery runs down. From what I learned doing a "Google" search you car's belt DOES drive the water pump, so do not drive it with the belt gone or off as it will quickly overheat and engine damage could occur.

i had my audi serpentine belt fall off once due to a bad bearing. Think driving a tank and over heating, no power and thats about what happens when you loose the serpentine. All vw and audi cars require the hydrolic pump for the steering cause with out it you will damage the rack and pinion system. and over heating will cause major damage to the engine and moduals. and lack of voltage will kill your battery. so in short no it is not a good idea to drive a car with out hte serpintine belt.

Voxwagen and audi water pump is driven by the timing belt not the serpentine, rack and pinion is full of oil just no pressure s driving will not do any damage except mabe kiling yor battery by draining it if it more than 2 years old
