2003 beetle automatic 2.0

My beetle started making a ticking sound when we pulled
into garage it shut down. No restart. Midas said timing
belt broke. How much damage could of happened in that
short time? Should I replace belt?

Well if it is the timing belt? and it broke? you could have bent a valve, sucked a vale into a piston, could of broke the cam? I have seen all this happen, and I am seen noting happen I would not drive or even start it tell you know for sure,
