On my 2001 beetle (1.8 turbo) when I turn it off , I here a fan or something running, not the radiator fan. it shuts off after a while.

i'm not sure if this is something new or its always been there. Sounds like its coming from under the engine cover.

It's normal, it's the secondary coolant pump that runs for a short time after shutdown to aid in cooling.
