What engine should I put into my 99 tahoe?
I've got 35" tires and a 6" lift. The engine I
have now has 170,000 miles on it. Runs
good but looking to put newer engine in it
so I don't have to worry about it breaking
down on me.
New body style with LS-style engine or old body style with 5.7 Vortec?
Amazon has a $10,500 Edelbrock engine with the Pro-Flow injection unit putting out around 440 HP. It'd work very well in your truck. Go to Amazon and look at it.
Unfortunately I have only stock replacements Looked at a 383 stroker and the Factory computer and emissions really limit the engine unless you feel like omitting stuff from the federal regulations Wish I could put a 350 350 ramJet engine in my 2000 Tahoe Limited Be careful what you do Good Luck
@Califcarson that would be alright for a non-efi truck or an upgrade from TBI. Waste installing on a truck that already has efi, that just needs a tune. If it's the LS style engine a traditional SBC would be a step down.
@SSTAHOE the 2000 limited held the old body style, just wondering if they left the 5.7 Vortec or did they upgrade to the LS-style engine.
This is the specs on the Edelbrock Displacement: 350 c.i.d. Performer RPM Pro-Flo XT EFI 9.5:1 Horsepower: 442 hp Torque: 409 ft-lbs. Compression: 9.5:1 Block: New GM "ZZ" 4 bolt main with 1-piece rear seal Crankshaft: Forged steel Pistons: Hypereutectic Camshaft: Rollin' Thunder Hydraulic Roller #2205 Rocker Arms: 1.5:1 Roller EFI System: Pro-Flo XT #3528 Cylinder Heads: E-Tec 170 #60975 Distributor: Included Valve Covers: Cast aluminum - style varies by application Finish: Satin or Black Warranty: 2-year / Unlimited mileage All you do is tell them the year make and style of your vehicle and they'll send an engine to drop right in. It has an EFI in the pro-flow. Those that have it swear by it. It is engine enough for the Tahoe. It is 50 state legal. If you asked for a new reliable engine to put into your 1999 truck, this is just a suggestion. There are a lot of engines out there, even short blocks so you can put as much of your own engine parts on as you want.
@califcarson. Like I said good for a non efi vehicle. It would drop in and run but it would not interface with the stock PCM wihich controls the tranny and gauge cluster, there are better options. A long block would be a better idea,
