99 tahoe ran out of gas will not start and is back fireing help

It sounds like bad gas to me maybe dump some seafoam gas treatment in the tank and see if that clears it up some. Check fuel pump by listening near gas tank with ignition turned on to accessory and you should hear it entergize. If it does then the next thing would be is to change fuel filter and then try and start. It may run rough for a while due to remaining gas but if it continues after half of the next tank fuel the injectors may be clogged.

Fuel pump is inside gas tank and should never be run dry...........probably fried it by running out. Give your tank a good hit with a hammer. It may get you going. It may have a dead spot........but sometimes works to get you home. Not that hard to replace but will set you back a couple hundred.

I agree with Roger on that one, if you go to a Chevrolet dealership to get the new pump they are only $99 though
