Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1999 Chevy Tahoe 5.7 won't start. Changed fuel pump and fuel filter and still
won't start. I can hear a click/ticking on and off from top of the engine when the
key is in the on position. I hear the fuel pump working and get fuel when
depressing the thing at the back of the engine.

Fixed!!! It appears to be a Security System problem (weren't really aware there was even a security system on this old car!) The fix is pretty simple - one of two things worked - try this first - Try to start as you normally would. When it doesn't start, leave the key in the ON position. Wait TEN Minutes. (We saw the Security light blinking and then it went solid after 10 min. and then went off.) Turn the key to the OFF position and count 20 seconds. REPEAT these steps 4 times. (some sites claim 3 times but it took 4 for our system). If this doesn't work, then a jumper wire was put between the wire on the left (think it was yellow) to the one in the middle where it enters the back of the cylinder. We found this fix by searching onlline. We then did the 4 step process above and it runs!!! Now we have a new fuel pump and filter, too. My big question is why did this happen to begin with?
