My valve cover oil deflector melted

I noticed it as I took the cover of and it was melted all I around the valves. It's
easy to remove but is there any downfall to it

It shouldn't have melted, I would replace it.

this may have happened due to old age, Either that or you have been having a lack of oil in the heads, Do any of the valves look heavily worn?
