Suburban stops blowing air sometimes, works again later (both hot and cold)
My 99 Suburban has been driving me crazy. It will randomly stop blowing air
out the vents, any setting at all, hot/cold/ac/high/low. Once it the air stops
coming out it will not work again until the car has sat for a while, then it
almost always works again the next time the car is used...until it suddenly
stops working in the middle of our drive. It happens on nearly every long-ish
drive...I'd say it never happens if we drive less than 30 minutes, and most of
the time if we do.
We had it at the dealership last year and the said it was a bad blower motor
and charged us a ton of money...still happens. They can't get it happen while
they have it so say they can't figure it out.
The interesting thing is, when it stops blowing out air there is still the air noise,
only louder and it seems to original in the little black box above the
passengers feet. That box will feel hot, or cold depending on what the air
temp should be, and occasionally drips a little water, I think when it is
supposed to be on a/c. To me it seems like there is a door, or a hose or
something getting blocked up? The tech looked at me like I had an extra
head when I was telling him this.
Any idea? I already suffered though last winter when our car would suddenly
get freezing cold, and a summer when we were sometimes left sweltering,
this after paying hundreds of dollars for a fix. I'd love to be able to tell my
clueless techs what to look for...
