When I connect the starter to the battery, it cranks the engine.
We have replace the starter three times. Once the nuts are connected and tightened, and
the battery is connected, the starter runs continuously.
You etheir,have a wire crossed,if starter was not doing this before,change,or igntion bad.
Check that none of the wires on the starter are touching each other. If that's ok I'd suspect a shorted ignition switch. HTH. -Jim
