How do I change the gear shift knob?
I bought a really cool, old gear shift knob for my car, but I have no idea how to take off the old one. I'm thinking that I may need some sort of adapter since the knob I'm putting on is merely threaded... no allen screws, etc. Any info on how to take off the knob and what type of adapter I might need would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I believe your vehicle should have a 12mm diameter shifter. So, you will need to use a pitch gauge or take your new knob to a shop that sells various screws and bolts to find out what the thread pattern and pitch are for the new knob. That way, you can get an adapter from the 12mm shift lever on your vehicle, to whatever the thread is on your new knob.
Twist it counter clockwise. A cheap, easy, and effective shift adapter is a piece of clear plastic hose/tubing inserted in the knob.
