Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So, my buddy bought an '06 Golf Gti and the car in
under 24 hours has the timing belt break... So you
know what that means. So we're swapping the
engine and I had NO say or any idea on what engine
will work. He got a junk yard engine (because it's
literally across the street from their shop) and I
have no idea what it came out of or if it will even
work. We already got the engine out of the Gti and
the transmission (6 speed) off, the clutch and all
that put back on the new engine and I'm looking at
my dad going, this isn't the same engine. The
number that I could find that wasn't on the head
that Google came up with something was 06A.
Now my question is, can I just put the exhaust
manifold, turbo, etc from the old 2006 Gti engine
and get it in and have it play nice with the CPU
once we get it all back together. I took a picture of
the old engines letter and numbers on the head
and it's junk but I believe it is BPY. IF ANYONE can
help me out I'd appreciate it because I'm not the
kind of person who likes to do all this work and
find out it won't work, basically the same as
measure twice, cut once deal. It'd be greatly
appreciated for any kind of help. I can get pictures,
more than I have already ss long as I know what to
look for.

My advice is to take an extended vacation without leaving a phone number or address where you can be reached.

Unfortunately that's not possible. I just would like to know if the engine we have can be fitted into the Gti with the existing parts? I found the previous owner cut the what I can figure out is the boost reference and upped the boost with a T-Valve and some kind - of a controller or just a screw in it for max boost and, going by the rest of the work I've seen on this car I wouldn't be surprised. But like I said before, any help would f free greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
