vw cabrio ac problem


Asked by Apr 22, 2011 at 09:40 AM about the 1999 Volkswagen Cabrio 2 Dr GLS Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

No AC coming out of vents.Freon level is fine.Also clutch on compressor is engaging.Any ideas.

Is the fan blowing and the air is just not cold? Or is the fan not blowing?

The fan is blowing at all speeds.Air is not cold.

i am not a vw repairman but it sounds like a leaking compressor,try stop leak FIRST,because u dont wanna have to buy a new or even used compressor cause they are expensive but mainly they are a real bitch to get to.You have to take ten things out to get to it.I got a 99 too.

I was looking at the location of the compressor. It does look difficult to remove & install a new one. I do believe you're correct in that the compressor is bad. Thanks for your response.
