how do i repair a top that wont go up automatically

Asked by bballfanla Mar 12, 2007 at 07:53 PM about the 1996 Volkswagen Cabrio 2 Dr STD Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I drove my car with the top not fully up.  Now the top won't go up/down using the switch.  I can raise/lower the top manually.  Is there any way to repair it.

Sounds like you are going to have to replace the motor that control the automatic roof. Probably has burned out. Best take it to a VW dealership and have it looked at. Unless of course you don't mind manually lowering and raising the roof all summer.

Could be hydraulic lines underneath the backseat, and in the trunk there’s two of them
