just bought X5 3.0i 2001 and have been told it has a rear main leak.
It is supposed to have a 30 day warantee dealer says no lets wait and see if it gets worse but in the mean time I LOSE THE WARANTEE. there are several other leaks valve gasket cover . oil filler. some other senser. The rear main leak is the main concern and the shop said it was significant. Can you tell me the approx costs and so forth
Your used car dealer is balking because that job is $1K, which requires you to remove the transmission. All the other gaskets you might be able to do yourself. I can find you some DIY's, but if your not mechanically inclined, your mechanic will charge you a few hundred each to do the other ones, maybe give you a break if you do them all at one time. The gaskets aren't the cost factor, it's the labor removing parts to get to them.
If it has a warranty tell then you want it fixed now, don't let them try to put you off, make them fix all of the problems not just the ones they want to fix, time is not your friend here.
