Bank 1 is your upstream O2 sensor. Usually located in the exhaust manifold. This sensor monitors exhaust gases & tells the computer what's coming out of the engine. The computer uses that information to make constant adjustments to maintain the proper air/fuel mixture for optimum performance & emission control under all driving conditions. Bank 2 O2 sensor is located in the exhaust pipe just after the catalytic converter. Also called the downstream O2 sensor its job is to monitor the catalytic converter. If your computer tests the catalytic converter & it fails it is the downstream O2 sensor that picks up on it & sets a trouble code to alert you the catalytic converter is bad. HTH. -Jim

Js08016 The Bank refers to the side of the motor. Bank 1 is the side that cylinder number one is on and Bank 2 is the other. Sensor 1 is the upstream sensor and sensor 2 is the downstream sensor after the catalytic converter.

Can anyone tell me whether there are more then the Two air filters, I'm aware of which go in the 2006 BMW X5 (E53) 3.0i M54B30 type Sport Activity Vehicle I own. I know of the activated charcoal cabin air filter---I'm not sure though whether it the one goes into box under hood on driver side ... or if it goes into the cowl/firewall of the vehicle. One of the two filters is long and other one is short. My email address is blow45@yahoo.com if you have a link with pics of which ever number total air filters used in the 2006 BMW aforementioned herein above would be greatly appreciated thank you.
