Why is my car idling so low?

Asked by Nov 10, 2015 at 12:07 AM about the 1986 Toyota Celica GT Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car starts right up,but I have to keep giving it gas,or it wil stall out. As long as I keep the RPM'S up,it won't stall. It's a manual transmission, so I have to take it out of gear, or keep the clutch pushed in,so it won't stall out. Once it warms up it runs really rough. Not sure if it has to do with the fuel system or maybe the distributer cap, rotor and plugs. Any suggestions??

You may have a bad idle regulator, spark plugs may also be at fault / need replaced.
