Will a Mercedes Benz R 500 start or go in gear with the alternator missing.
I have a 2006 Mercedes Benz R 500 I bought from
the auction, with the alternator missing, ive tried to
start the car but it wont even turn over or come out
of park. , I checked to see if the engine was locked
up by turning the crank pully and it turn, on the the
display irs says visit work shop with out shifting
It should start, but I would not run it too long as low voltage can reek havoc with the electrical including the computer and control systems. Plus you also have a warning about the transmission, this could be an out of sync gear selector switch to something inside the tranny itself, I think the best course of action would be to have it towdollied to the shop of your choice and have it gone through so you know what you have and how much it is going to cost too fix. Sorry no quick fix on this one.
Thanks for you response. Do you think because the alternator is missing may be the reason for those 2 issues?
It is a possibility that due too low voltage the computer has locked out the transmission control. You could try recharging the battery and installing an alternator and see what happens. If things still don't work then a MB dealer will have to reflash the system and then see what is still out off line with the computers.
Thanks alot, I will try that & keep you posted
Great, I would like to know what you find.
