My A/C has started to occasionally not be able to blow cold air.

Asked by gdo9 Sep 09, 2014 at 12:23 AM about the 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class SLK 350

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

One day it works, and the next day not.  Seems that if having sat out in the heat one day,
takes a couple of days til it works again.  Also when not running cold, if I turn it off for
about 30-60 seconds, it sometimes will start working again.

Becoming more frequent and persistent these days - help!!!!!!!!!!!

Also check the A/C dryer. See if there are bubbles in the sight glass. You could be experiencing moisture in the system.

Thanks so much for your input - if I did not make clear before, the fan itself never has a problem, just the ability to make the air cold is in and out. Unfortunately, I am a pathetic novice when it comes to repairs or even knowing where the blower bod or A/C dryer even might be. Is there a resource in the web for I might be able to get parts and do this myself?

As for doing it yourself. First you have to be sure that you have the problem figured out. IF IT IS the dryer that's a job for someone who has the tools and knowledge to do the job. But you can always go to YouTube and preview the job.

I have read this very helpful thread but my question s a little different. When I select AC and turn the temp arrows to low setting, I can put my fingers against the vents and they are ice cold but the fan doesn't blow. As I recall the last time it was working, I had run over a bump in the road and it starting blowing again flawlessly. Could this be the"blower box actuator" that is mentioned above? Haven't been able to find that magic bump in about a year.
