is it worth it to keep

Asked by Malablu Feb 20, 2019 at 12:24 AM about the 2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class SLK 230 Kompressor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have. 2001 Mercedes SLK230 Kompressor that I was rear ended in, then
struck the vehicle in front of me.  The front bumper has a hole in it and the
area where the trunk latches was pushed in a littlle and trunk won't latch.
back bumper has a scratch.  It still drives great.  Strong little engine and just
a fun car.  They said that it is over $6000 to fix so it will most likely be
totaled.  Is it worth it to keep it and fix it myself?

Hard to say. Do you really love the car? Trouble is, if you want to keep it the insurance company will deduct a 'salvage' value and deductible from the money they give you. So the insurance company may only give you $4,000 - $4,500. Then you would be responsible for the repairs.
